I have had a busy few months and the time in the library has flown by. As the saying goes, 'Time flies when you're having fun.'
Throughout November and December I lead a whole school Spotlight on Literacy theme. A few of the events and activities were:
- Every classroom invited guest readers to come into read - these could be parents, other teachers, administrators, the school nurse etc.
- Students read in different locations around the school - by the pool, in the director's office, on the stage, in the nurse's room etc.
- The students recorded the books they read and we created an extremely long 'book worm' outside the library.
- The Pre K and K students worked with the music teacher to put Pete the Cat by Eric Litwin to music and dance. They presented this, with me reading the story, to their classroom teachers and a few of the administrators.
- Each day there was a 'Spotlight on a Reader' poster displayed around the school. Teachers wrote about their favorite or most memorable book from school (PK - Grade 7).
- Book Character Parade!
- Piyu Majumdar, the author of the Children of the Sun poetry books, visited our school and worked with the students.
- Each classroom teacher was encouraged to study either a genre or an author throughout the Spotlight on Literacy month and have some kind of fun celebration with their class at the end of the unit.
- Ding Dong Drop and Read!
- Book Fair.
